Ladies Necklace Lengths
Traditionally, necklaces
come in six lengths. When choosing one of my handcrafted necklaces with or without a pendant,
remember that the length will determine where it falls on your chest. Shorter lengths tend to
emphasize the neck while longer lengths will accentuate the the bust.
Most of my handcrafted
necklaces can be made to a custom length or include an extender which will allow you to
size your necklace to suit your outfit. You can
contact us with your special needs and I can probably make a necklace to
accommodate you.
Collar
(12 to 13 inches)
The collar necklace encircles the middle of the neck. It works best with v-necks,
boat necks, and shoulder-baring styles. A Sterling Silver, and or, a gemstone necklace
draws extra attention to the neck.
Choker (14-16 inches) The choker necklace lies just above the collarbones
and emphasizes the neckline. A simple Sterling Silver or gemstone necklace looks great
with almost any style, exclude turtle neck and high neckline clothing pieces.
Princess (17-19 inches) This is the most common of necklace lengths
and it needs to hang just over the collarbones. Unlike the choker, it looks great
with crew and high neck lines. Princess length necklaces are beautiful with gemstone
or decorative metal pendants and will add some flair to a plunging neckline
Matinee (20 to 25 inches) This necklace should hang just to the
top of your bust. It is a very elegant necklace and works well with a variety of
necklines. It compliments professional and casual attire, high necklines and button-up
blouses, which gives an elegant festive feel.
Opera (26 to 36 inches) Can be worn as a single strand with high necklines
or doubled to create a two-strand choker. You can knot it at the neckline or at the bust
to create a stylish vintage look. Use it with casual attire to make a fashion statement.
Many chain, and gemstone necklaces are opera length.
Rope (37 inches or longer) This necklace length is very versatile. It can be
doubled or tripled creating stunning looks with a variety of necklines. Keep in mind that
longer necklaces with heavy gauge wire size or large gemstones will appear too heavy.
