Great Accent Colors

Hematite is a very unusual mineral. It is opaque in appearance with a metallic luster. It is actually iron oxide which we call rust. This mineral is usually blue-black to silvery grey and often used in jewelry making. If Hematite is ground into powder, it appears blood red and in some countries they call it bloodstone. It shouldn't be confused with the Jasper variety of bloodstone.

Hemalyke is a "look alike" for natural Hematite, but without the cost. Hematite is ground up and mixed with a glue binder before being pressed into molds, and this reconstituted process is permanent and stable. So, Hemalyke is identical to hematite but it is less brittle and thus more adaptable in making jewelry. The gemstones used in this bracelet are Hemalyke.

This man-made "gemstone" is very popular and usable in the jewelry industry. With Hemalyke you get hematite's beauty but with a uniformity and price that's far superior. That's fantastic! A quality gem at a reasonable price which will work with many of your Silver Jewelry pieces.

When we consider the physical characteristics of Hemalyke, it is a very good stone to be used in making jewelry. With a hardness of 6.5 on the Mohs scale, it is usable in all jewelry making applications and it can be used in jewelry pieces with modest care and little worry about damage. The most common danger to Hemalyke are scratches, sharp blows and a gradual dulling of their finish due to contact with harder substances. NOTE: Hemalyke is soluble is acid so keep it away from household chemicals. Please refer to the "Helpful Hints" information box on the right side of this page for more options in caring for this gemstone bracelet.

These particular man made Hemalyke gems have been dyed to improve their color and heat treated to stabilize the color change. The rich colors certainly attracts attention! The 9x6mm round tubes are black which really accents the 8x8mm faceted rondelles. This bracelet is a 7" light magnetic piece with a stretch band, and you have a quality product at a reasonable price.

These gemstone jewelry pieces were produced by skilled artisans and quality checked by JDesigns in my Southwest Oklahoma shop. You can shop with confidence because of the "Ironclad" product guarantee and my service after the sale.
