Eye-Catching Green

Malachite is a mineral found in the oxidized layers of copper deposits. The green patina on weathered copper roofs and house gutters is a form of Malachite. It is a very popular, famous, gemstone with many patterns of greens, creams and black bands. These gems are stunningly beautiful, yet very common and inexpensive. They are one of my favorites.

It is a medium/soft non-porous gemstone with a Mohs Hardness of 4. These gems have a very beautiful striation of cream, light green and black colored bands running through the rich primary green color, and it is an opaque gem which takes a good polish and has a very vitreous (glassy) finish. A quality gemstone bracelet which you will want as a part of your Silver Jewelry collection.

Being a medium/soft gemstone, it is sensitive to both heat and acids. Malachite will require gentle care, no ultrasonic cleaners or steam cleansing should be done. It's best usage is in earrings, brooches, pendants, tie pins and etc. It is also used in rings and bracelets as in this jewelry piece. These rich green Malachite Gem pieces are 11mm x 5mm in size and they are attached to a "watch type" expansion band which shows the various striated colors of the Malachite stone, with their very attractive and irregular patterns. This is one bracelet which you will want to wear frequently.
