Royal Blue & Apple Green

This is an absolutely gorgeous pair of custom Sterling Silver dangle earrings which I have designed and crafted. They each have two gemstones set in smooth edged bezel cups. The upper gemstone is an 8mm round Lapis and the lower gem is an 18x25mm oval Gaspeite. They are joined together with 18 gage round Sterling Silver wire formed into teardrop eyes along with a custom handmade Sterling Silver ear wire.

Lapis Lazuli, an abbreviation of Lapis Lazuli, is a gem which could have come straight out of the Arabian Nights (royal blue). Most Lapis Lazuli gems are deep blue and some have inclusions of white calcite, and yellow pyrite which shimmer like small stars. The finest stones should be a nice even blue color with no veining from these other elements.

Lapis is a very durable stone and since it is actually a rock it can be worn everyday. It has an application to all types of jewelry designs from earrings, to rings, pendants, necklaces and etc. and it is a translucent to opaque stone which has a high glossy luster. In the process of frequent usage, caution should be taken to prevent scratches, and rough usage will result in a gradual dulling of the finish.

Gaspeite is a relatively rare mineral, found only in a few localities. It's light green, almost apple green color is quite unique and very east to identify. Most of these gems will contain brownish patches or streaks like this one which gives it a unusually distinctive character. Gaspeite is used in conjunction with other gems such as Turquoise, Malachite, Azurite, Lapis Lazuli to name a few which makes for beautiful Sterling Silver Jewelry pieces
