Iolite is a popular and interesting gemstone. It represents one of the few relatively available and affordable blue gem options. Its different colors can range from colorless, to violet, pale yellow to green, pale blue, brown, and grey. The most popular is the violet to blue gemstone with various shades of each. Iolite has one particular trait worth mentioning which is called Pleochroism. That's a big word which simply means that when viewed from different angles it is possible to see three distinct colors. When worn on a regular basis give some attention to scuffing and scratching of the surface as this will dull the glassy finish. The best cleaning methods are warm soapy water and/or a soft cloth.
